Here are some quick things to note about the NFL Flag Football rules.
NFL guidelines state 70-yard field by 30-yard. This includes each endzone being 10-yards, which means the actual running field is only 50-yards (endzone to endzone).
3 downs to get past mid field, or a TD. Once past mid field it's 1st down and you get a new set of 3 downs to score a TD. No TD results in a turn-over which will put the ball at the 5 yard line of the offense and they take position.
Offensive players can not block, in any form. They can act as decoys or stand still forcing the defenders to go around them. The offense can not push or hold their hands out wide to interfere with the defenders in any form.
The QB can NOT run the ball. They can scrimmage behind the LOS but must pass or hand-off within 7 seconds or it's a dead play.
Any player receiving a hand-off behind the LOS is eligible to pass (as long as they haven't crossed the LOS and are still behing the LOS) or the can run. The QB is allowed to proceed down field as an eligible receiver.
Mouth guards are mandatory in order to play in a game.
Jerseys must be tucked in giving full access to the flags.
This year we are playing 5v5. Each teams roster has a 7 person roster, which allows for substitutions during game play. Minimum of 4 players to compete in a game. If only 3 players show up, the game is a forfeit and if the teams choose to they can agree to use the allotted time for a scrimmage.
Full rules and handbook can be viewed/downloaded by clicking here. Yes the rule book says 2012, but the NFL hasn't updated/changed the rule book since 2012.
Defensive players should not slide on their knees in an attempt to pull a flag. Referees should warn for the first offense and then start throwing a flag.
Offensive players are not allowed to "jump or leap" while running with the ball. The first time both feet leave the ground the referee should blow the play dead and issue a warning. All offenses after should be called as penalties with loss of down and -10 yards. It is ok to "jump or leap" to avoid contact, but the play is dead at that point.
All coaches need to register online via this website. The registration includes a background check. Once registered communication through the league is done via emails to the coaches prior to the season, during the season, and occasionally after the season. We strive to keep the coaches well informed.
